“I bought this camera as a trade-in for my A7R IV(A) during a vendor visit. Between the trade-in price I received for the old camera and the discount Sony was offering during the vendor event, the new body cost me around $500.00. Not too bad! I've only had the camera for a week or so and haven't used it much yet, but I loved the A7R IV and used it extensively. The new features of the A7R V (bird, insect, and other eye detection; fully articulating screen [finally, Sony?!], the menu set up similar to the A1, the ability to use CF Express cards) should make it well worth the cost of the trade-up. Now if Sony would just do what everyone else does and switch to CF Express B cards instead of their proprietary brand, allow for in-camera double exposures and in-camera time-lapse photography, and update their firmware more often instead of forcing Sony users to buy new camera bodies, I could stop wondering if I would have been better off with Nikon. (Oh, and when you do that switch to CF Express B, make sure you provide free updated camera bodies to those of us stuck with the CF Express A cards you made us buy for no reason. Are you listening, Sony?)

A whole new level of camera intelligence from new AI processing unit

State-of-the-art AI processing with deep learning uses detailed information about human forms and poses to dramatically improve the camera’s subject recognition accuracy and make full use of its potential resolution. The 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with 61.0 million pixels and the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine are used to their fullest potential to deliver extraordinary resolution and fine subject detail.

Outstanding filmmaking with 8K 24p/25p4 and 4K 60p/50p

The XAVC HS format enables in-camera recording of high-resolution, high-quality 8K (7680 x 4320) 24p/25p movies with efficient HEVC/H.265 compression, bringing out the very best in Sony's lenses and taking full advantage of the resolution provided by the sensor and full-pixel readout. Even the finest subject details are faithfully captured. Full frame and Super 35mm formats can be selected for 4K movie recording. Full pixel readout in the Super 35mm mode without the need for pixel binning makes 6.2x oversampling possible for 4K movies. The XAVC S-I (All-Intra) or the XAVC HS format is supported, with 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling.
